England manager Steve McClaren today said:
"Nobody is a permanent fixture and no-one can count on having a shirt all the time.
"They have to work hard for their clubs in between and show form and then, when they come to England, they have to perform well for the team.
"We are building a squad and I've said to these players they are in the squad at the moment but it's up to them whether they stay in or not." (BBC)
And I ask: Does that include the captain?
England had many problems in mounting a challenge for the 2006 World Cup but the biggest problem was the fact that then manager Eriksson did not have the courage to sit his captain David Beckham.
If current captain and centreback John Terry loses his form will McClaren have the courage to sit him on the bench?
