A Yahoo Sports story title is today claiming that:
"Materazzi breaks silence over Zidane head-butt".
But that's hardly the case.
I actually think that Matterazzi is a useful player but he is both duplicit and thick.
He is now trying to suggest that Zidane provoked him:
"Yes, I was tugging his shirt, but when he said to me scornfully 'If you want my shirt so much I'll give it to you afterwards,' is that not a provocation? I answered that I'd prefer his sister, it's true."
The facts as I know them are that Matterazzi REPEATEDLY pulled on Zidane's shirt and REPEATEDLY made insulting comments...and Zidane finally snapped, deciding to take justice into his own hands.
For me Matterazzi is the only villian in this incident and I continue to wish that referees and FIFA could find a way to root out this nastiness from the game...
