Coaching?

On the same day that former Arsenal player Sol Campbell stated that after his career he would try to get his coaching badges, Dennis Bergkamp revealed he is not keen on returning to football as a coach following his farewell testimonial match against Ajax on Saturday.

Bergkamp said: "I have never really thought about coaching, it has never really attracted me in any way." (BBC 2006.07.23)

And why should coaching attract him?

Coaching is not a retirement plan for all players. Coaches are coaches. Players are players.

Who knows? Perhaps Sol Campbell will be a great coach.

But it strikes me that the great Dennis Bergkamp is being more honest with himself than the clubless Centreback.
