Arena is right

Bruce Arena has come under fire for his comments about the MLS following his team's exit from the World Cup.

He believes that the MLS is inadequate in preparing the US national team to compete in and ever win the World Cup. And he thinks that the only way for his players to prepare properly is for them to play in Europe where they get the best competition and are immersed in a year round football environment.

And I think he is absolutely right about that.

The fact is that while American soccer has improved considerably over the years, so has the soccer of the other top countries.

Until America's MLS teams have the same quality and environment as other top countries, or until those teams perhaps regularly compete against teams like Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, etc., American players will always be either one step, one move or one level of instinct behind the top players in the world...
