Homeland

Shame that the "homeland of football"--as FIFA president this week called it--has to wait until 2018 until hosting another World Cup. That'll make it a 52 year gap between World Cups for England. 2006 would have been a great time for England to have hosted. Certainly at this time a more dynamic football location than Germany. No offense to the Germans--I'm sure they'll make it an interesting tournament. The English will have to console themselves with winning the tournament in 06, 10 or 14 until they finally host at home again. That would be the ultimate way to reaffirm England's "homeland" title.
