Adidas has developed a "smart ball" that sends a signal to a referee's wristband when the ball has crossed the goal line. FIFA is looking to introduce the technology for the next World Cup. And why not? It seems like a fairly straight-forward piece of technology that can assist in an area of great need: sometimes, depending on a referee's position and the speed and angle of a shot, a referee can only guess if a ball has crossed a line. I believe that goal line technology will become a global standard for football and that we'll eventually have a portable smartball package that can applied to the remotest amateur football fields in the world.
