Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian Soccer Association, Kevin Pipe, was fired yesterday.
This has been a long, long time coming.
Like many, I have blamed Pipe for Canadian soccer woes for years. But I don't think in hindsight Pipe was entirely to blame.
What I do think now though is that any man of integrity would have stepped down a long time ago and accepted that what had become of Canadian soccer was unacceptable.
Now that he's gone though, Canada will have no excuses and will have to put up or shut up; they will have to build a proper infrastructure and create a philosophy that is geared toward making the most of the talent we have in this country.
The new CSA president Colin Linford has said: "We felt there was a need for fresh blood, new ideas." ( Toronto Star )
Indeed. It's time to show that "Canada Plays the Beautfiul Game".
