Group of LIFE


A reader on the New York Times soccer message board says:

"Fair result for Argentina - 2-1 was a decent reflection of the play. However, if Argentina defend like that against a better team, they'll be leaking goals."

I agree that Argentina deserves the points and has also demonstrated that it is a quality side worthy of "favourite" status. However, in terms of the Argentinian defending, I see it as being more a case of needing to compliment the Ivorians who created numerous chances and exposed the Argentinian defense. They simply played a stunning game full of invention and made the mouth water for more games from this so-called group of death. Group C should in fact called the group of "life". Such football as we saw in yesterday's match between Argentina and Cote d'Ivoire is what makes the WC so great...
