A case for the defense

Today, Reuters reports that Ilija Petkovic, coach of Serbia, named his son to Dusan, a centreback, to replace injured striker Mirko Vucinic.

Could 06 be another 82 where a the beautiful Brazil got knocked out and a tough, defensively-minded Italy won the whole thing?

If Brazil do go out in this summer's World Cup, I think it could well be a team like Serbia (like Greece at Euro 2004) that wins the whole thing.

By the way, star Serbia centreback Vidic is due to miss the Netherlands match due to suspension.

I rarely, rarely agree with a coach selecting his son (ie: Steve Bruce at Birmingham) but with Vidic out this looks like a wise move...
