The room and freedom to shine

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has vowed to be tough on referees during this summer's World Cup.

He says:

"We have to ensure the referees are focused at this World Cup...The referees will be given an eight-point list of the worst offences to crack down on, including diving, elbowing, over-the-top tackles, mass dissent and time-wasting. (BBC 2004.04.26)

I hope that they are also tough on the tackle from behind and the holding that goes on during corners.

I hope that FIFA and their referees not only protect the talent this summer but give talent the room and freedom to shine.
