The ball spending most of the time in the air

Is this fact a result of the usual coaching of Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce or the desparation of the moment: Bruce's Birmingham desperate to avoid relegation and Allardyce's Bolton desperate to "get into Europe"? Happy that Allardyce lost 1-0. Imagine him coaching the grand old England team. Absurd.

Here's how the BBC reported it (2006.04.04):

"The game started with the ball spending most of the time in the air as both teams attempted to take control...And while the game was not one for the purists, it did convey the desperate situation Birmingham are in as well as Bolton's need for a win as they chase a European spot...Bolton's best chances inevitably came from the aerial route and striker Kevin Davies headed over from eight yards while Stelios glanced an effort wide..."

The aerial route hmmmm...Just what England needs more of.
