What does torrid mean?
Here's an example:
"The centre-back was taken off after a torrid first-half display in the defeat to West Ham." (BBC Football 06.02.2006)
It means that the centreback was not playing well enough to stay on...at least...but it is a strong sounding word...maybe it's the equivalent of " 'mare", in other words nightmare.
Torrid may mean having the worst game of your life.
According to answers.com it means "Parched with the heat of the sun; intensely hot."
Sounds painful.
Little wonder that Sol Campbell has left Arsenal and people are worried about the once heroic centreback.
