There won't be a better stage

England's Steven Gerrard missed the 2002 World Cup due to injury. He became king of Europe with the comeback win over Milan in Istanbul in 2005. Now he's looking forward to Germany in 06.

"To sit at home for five or six weeks and watch the games, bandaged up after groin surgery, was probably one of the lowest points of my career...I have got a great chance to put that behind me now. There won't be a better stage to show what I can do...I'm confident, given the right stage and the right players around me, that I can do really well." (BBC 28.02.2006)
