Here's what Sam Alardyce has to say about the hiring of the next England manager:
"If the FA are talking about the next England manager being British it is good news for everyone in this country...The public seem to want that, so obviously I would want to go that way - not just from the point of being in contention but because I am English...It is very important for this country - and for the FA - to go down that route because we are all taught through their system and we are all going through the curriculum for the badges and qualifications." (BBC 13.02.2006)
But what if that route is flawed or that route does not produce top managers?
Should they be hired just because they are English?
Is this how business should be done? To hire internally?
Doesn't sound too inspiring to me. It actually sounds like simplistic thinking which places limitations on the prospects of the program.
Is that what England needs now--a limitation? Or should they open the process up wide and find a champion?
There have to be more routes than that one route.
