Tactics and mind games

Chelsea and Liverpool tie their first Champions League group match and the mind games start full force. Post-game, Liverpool manager Benitez is complaining about penalties gone by and Mourinho is bating the Spaniard by claiming Chelsea at least tried to win by adding Crespo and Wright-Philips at the end.

Nil-Nil. The Spaniard and Portuguese are at it again. Both teams will survive their group. Masterful stuff. These guys know how to grind out results: Benitez said that Liverpool played exactly as he asked them to; Mourinho revealed how he micromanages:
"In the last three or four minutes when there was a lot of long balls into the box I didn't want to lose, so I put Robert Huth on because he can dominate and play the basketball game - so we go home with a point." (BBC)

:-)

So amusing and insulting. And yet it was that type of "basketball" / desparation that allowed for the Liverpool comeback against Milan last spring. Wise and wary Mourinho remembers.

Love to watch great managers at work.
