I've talked a bit about how playing PS2 and FIFA Street can be instructive and improve on-field performance in footballers.
I know that playing Street has inspired my game. I now play more pick-up footie and better footie.
But I discovered something even more interesting the other day.
As we were sitting down to another PS2 session, my son insisted on switching to FIFA 2005. We hadn't popped in that disc in a long time.
And man had my game improved.
How? Why?
I doubt that it was my long absence from the game. It probably had to do with my focus on playing Street.
My individual player skills had improved.
My own hand/thumb and controller skills had improved.
I was passing, crossing, shooting and especially tackling ( ! ) better.
What a revelation.
And my improved individual skills allowed me then to make better combinations and improve my collective/team play.
I dominated my son.
Made him cry.
Just kidding.
But he wasn't happy with my virtuoso performance.
By the way, his game was better too.
He was shooting better and scoring more goals of his own.
No more reliance on my own-goals.
And he owes it all to Street.
And so do I.
Street is our teacher.
