Street Kid

Yesterday my 5 year old son dragged me into the room where we keep our PS2 and begged me to play FIFA Street with him.

"Daddy, Daddy! Please, please. I want to play FIFA street. Right now! Come!"

He was not going to give up.

As we began our game in Lagos, it occurred to me that he has never been so interested in playing FIFA Soccer 2005.

And yet from what I've read on boards and in mags and in reviews, hardcore gamers are not that impressed by Street. Different strokes, I suppose. Personally, I enjoy it beyond the fact that my son enjoys it.

And beyond enjoyment, I'm finding it instructive.

Today my son and I played 1 v 1 footie in the garage with a size 1 soccer lego ball and I was flying: full of more moves and grooves than I ever had. A former centreback, I was feeling more like Ronaldinho than Tony Adams.

FIFA Street is a good thing: for me and my Street Kid.
